San Juan Capistrano, Orange County
Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded in 1776. Its Serra Chapel, built in 1782, is the oldest building in California still in regular use, and the ruins of the Great Stone Church, which collapsed in an earthquake in 1812, stand beside it. Each year the town celebrates the return of the cliff swallows on March 19, Saint Joseph's Day.
